John lives at Lake Tekapo – moving there from Rangiora ten years ago to build a Bed and Breakfast Lodge in the village on Highway 8 with his wife Lynda.
Four years ago they bought a section of land in front of the Lodge and as it is quite difficult to have a nice garden in the MacKenzie country John set about making garden features from wire.
After loosing plants from frost and snow he decided to make wire sheep and barbed wire balls to with stand the harsh conditions of the area which is over 700m above sea level.
So now the front of the Lodge has flocks of sheep amongst a James MacKenzie story which the public can view and learn about the History and Legends of the Famous sheep russler James MacKenzie.
Being able to get barbed wire from a friend John set about making barbed wire balls in all sizesboth galvanized and rusty barbed wire balls now sit on the front lawn for tourists to see, as they travel through the MacKenzie Basin.
